I found the right videos.

RESEARCH: Zoetrope

The theme for our zoetrope is 'flying' so i have been researching some videos of different flying movements that i could depict. So far, after looking at videos of various types of flight, im liking the falling leaves, and FMX stunts ideas best. The only real question is how to draw the movements... as in do i go out and film falling leaves myself so i can draw from the stills, or do i go with the FMX idea where firsthand drawing references will be a lot harder to get. I actually saw the UK FMX team about 6 or 7 times at NASS a few years ago and almost certaintly took videos of them, but whether or not i can find those vids is another story.

Future Projects: ETSY SHOP

A plan in the pipework for the future is the setting up of an Etsy, or web based, shop to start selling my work, maybe as gift cards, prints, wrapping paper etc. Also in this shop will be handmade craft goods such as jewellery and gifts. The idea is that a few of us from my course will set up a shop together and sell a variety of things, designed and made by each of us... hopefully for a profit, but also for experience and exposure. The bonus of going into a business idea like this with other people is that we can share the expenses and bounce ideas of each other and work on collaborated things to sell. For example, one of the people joining does glass work and both myself and Sophie make jewellery... this skills could make interesting creative outcomes. We hope to get the online shop set up as soon as well are al back in college and know our time constraints.

Summer Experiments: FEATHERS

Summer Experiments: PHOTOSHOP BDAY CARD

Here is a birthday card i photoshopped for my friend over the summer. Not really relevant but i thought i would include it anyway.

Summer Experiments: DENIM CHARACTERS

Whilst lying in bed one night i came up with this idea in my head for a series of work, where i would use the real texture of denim (and possibly other fabrics) I wanted to experiment with this idea immediately but do not have a scanner and so was unable to draw the outline of my figures and then scan it in. To roughly test my idea i tried to draw figures directly using digital means, which (obviously) is not my style or forte. Here are my initial experiments with this, i will be developing it in much more depth with much more skill when i have access to a scanner.

Summer Experiments: MULTIPLE MOOSE

A few of us from the Illustration course have set up a little 'collective' called Mutiple Moose and the idea was that over the summer we would set briefs and keep track of the outcomes via a facebook group. This didnt go very far, but we did all have a go at creating some moose' in our own styles. Here are some of the images i created.

Inspiration: BADFACE

Right at the beginning of summer i found a copy of one of Badface's little zines in a small arty shop in Exeter and was immediately inspired to do something similar. I love the underground, low budget feel of the production and the fact that he distributes them in funny ways such as putting them in peoples pockets etc.

Inspiration: IAN MASON

I love dogs. This is such a beautiful picture. I looked up the artist and he does lots of doggy pictures. This made me happy.

Inspiration: BRETT MANNING

I came across Brett Manning when trawling the internet, and decided to include it in my inspirations because I really enjoyed the illustrations. I love the use of limited colour palettes, and the intricate line work. They remind me of fashion illustrations, but a bit quirky and interesting.

Inspiration: CAROLINE WALKER

I discovered Caroline Walker's work in a small gallery in Cornwall on a weekend away during the summer. I love animals and nature, so was immediately captured by the cows especially. I really love the angles she chooses to draw the animals from as it makes them very comical and stylish. The drawings are realistic and yet cartoon-like at the same time, a combination which i would like to be able to work with myself.
